Zines

Once again, I agree that letting students be creative motivates them to learn. Allowing students to write in their own way about their own topics gives students freedom. When they have freedom, they feel they have some kind of ownership over their work. Not only that, but they will also feel as though they are a part of the classroom community.

Letting students be creative is motivating!

That sounds exactly like something I can hear Dr. Sarver saying. We had to write a research paper on student motivation, and a project like zines would fall under motivation because it stimulates student interest. It definitely works.

and publishing their work gives them ownership and pride to see their work on paper/blogs/internet. I realy like the Hobbs book and I want to teach media literacy because everything I read about it, I see students engaged and excited about what they are learning and learning critical thinking skills.

I hope, Jami, you agree that Lauren's post is also something you can imagine Dr. Stearns saying...since I've been banging this drum for decades.

Lauren, can you say more about what was most important to you in this EJ article?
